An Invitation and brief for
‘OBJECT TRANSLATOR’ of Strange•R
for Designersblock, London Design Festival 2009
We are presenting at the London Design Festival 2009 with Singapore Creative Network UK!
Calling the ‘OBJECT TRANSLATOR’s to come into play this time to contribute to the Room.
Are you an Object Translator in the world of Strange•R?
If you are a design student, a designer, an inventor or simply someone who likes to create beyond your own preconception and ego, you can become an Object Translator in the world of Strange•R.
The Object Translator can choose to create more than one Strange•R and is subjected to selection.
The role and task of an Object Translator.
The task of an Object Translator is to give life to an abandon object by translating a set of information from a day’s journey belonging to a stranger in a city (known as the Traveller). These Journeys of different participating strangers in the city are recorded in a booklet which we named as ‘Passport to Strange•R world’ that was previously collected in another part of this creative process.
**To conceive a Strange•R, the Object Translator has to follow a few simple steps from the devised Methodology*
Steps to the making of Strange•R
- From the list below, choose a Strange•R to create.
- Complete a sentence that comes with the passport which will describe the character of the Strange•R. The sentence shall be completed with a keyword or keywords found in the passport.
example:
- The milk carton (pre-determined from an object mentioned in the passport) who wants to be a cow (fill in the blank with a keyword from the passport to give a character to the object ) (see picture and passport above)
- The cabinet who wants to dress up.
- The rug who wants to sit.
- Find an abandon object that is of the same nature as the object stated in the sentence.
- Translate the sentence into a functional object with an added character that can be part of our everyday life. The end product should be of high quality workmanship.
- A Strange•R is born.
